چکیده

The goal of this study is to develop a method to quantify SCIAMACHY degradation and calibration in the UV, where the focus is on the O3 profile wavelength range 270-330 nm. Awaiting SCIAMACHY data reprocessing, the method has been performed on GOME observations, SCIAMACHY predecessor. The approach followed is to compare GOME reflectivity spectra with simulated spectra using collocated independent measurements of O3, temperature and pressure. For this a vector radiative transfer model (RTM) was used to avoid errors introduced by the GOME polarisation correction algorithm, (degradation of) the GOME polarisation measurements and errors in the forward radiances introduced when using a scalar RTM.

Improved retrieval of global tropospheric formaldehyde columns from GOME-2/MetOp-A addressing noise reduction and instrumental degradation issues

We present a new dataset of formaldehyde vertical columns retrieved from observations of GOME-2 on board the EUMETSAT MetOp-A platform between 2007 and 2011. The new retrieval scheme, which has been optimised for GOME-2, includes a two-step fitting procedure that strongly reduces the impact of spectral interferences between H2CO and BrO, and a modified DOAS approach that better handles ozone ab...

In-orbit Optical Path Degradation: Gome Experience and Sciamachy Prediction

It is well known that degradation of optical components is to be expected after prolonged exposure to the conditions experienced in orbit. In particular it is expected that the instrument response to ultra-violet light will change. GOME and SCIAMACHY are prone to degradation. In order to minimise the impact on the scientific data products, several means of monitoring possible degradation were i...

Radiation and Cloud Studies with Gome in Preparation for Future Spectrometer Missions

GOME is presently the only space-borne spectrometer observing the entire spectral range from 240 to 790 nm with high spectral resolution. Its data are an important source of information to prepare for the analysis of data from the new satellite spectrometers SCIAMACHY, OMI, and GOME-2. We present some examples of the use of GOME data for checking radiometric calibration and for multispectral st...

SP-531 Envisat Validation Workshop

In order to assess the level-2 data retrieval accuracy of selected trace gases (O3, NO2, H2O) from SCIAMACHY and MIPAS, which are part of the atmospheric instrumentation on the recently launched ENVISAT satellite, operational and some scientific products are validated by comparison with other space borne instruments (GOME, HALOE, SAGE II, POAM III). First results of these satellite intercompari...

Sciamachy Reflectance and Solar Irradiance Validation

The top-of-atmosphere spectral reflectance measured by SCIAMACHY has been validated by comparisons between calibrated SCIAMACHY V6 Level 1 data and corresponding reflectances from AATSR and MERIS. The AATSR analysis is currently restricted to part of one specifically processed orbit containing a scene over a hurricane with high and homogeneous clouds for which results for V5 data are already av...
